I have a child theme and I think there are many files that I am not overrriding. I tried to delete all files other than the css and functions file and the site crashes. I am trying to simplify my child theme foler so when I need to make changes I can tell what files I am using. Is there a way to delete all the duplicate files in the child theme? I have folders with css, inc, js,images, languages,page-templates,web-fonts etc

Thanks but I have read that before and other docccumentation that is why I am not able to solve my problem and seeking clarification. If I have a theme with hundreds of files and all I am doing is changing the header or footer, I thought I could just include the functions file, css file, header and footer. But this is not working. I have to include all the other folders and files for the site breaks.

I recommend asking at your theme’s dedicated support so its developers and support community can help you with this.

Thanks maybe someone else will be able to help. This is not a premium theme. This also occures on multiple sites I have. So its not really pertaining to a specific theme. Simply enqueue scripts and styles and including a functions file is not working. I have to include all the files and folders.

I solved the issue. I was not correctly enqueuing the styles from the parent theme. Also the template name was incorrect in the CSS file.
