• So sorry to add to the thousands of questions posted but curious if someone can enlighten me as to the proper way to edit Minimalist in the following:

    — add lowercase text in conjunction with the uppercase already written in.

    — change font and/or size of font in header and elswhere.

    — change text color

I know, basic beyond all measure. And I have tried changing the numeric value in the stylesheet accordingly to no avail. Would be thrilled with a few answers. ( I take it that it is possible to alter the themes in this way?? )

thanks so much for your Minimalist Theme Tutorial Advice!

  • There are thousands of WordPress themes – which means that many people won’t be familiar with your particular theme. So a link to your site might help.

The particular theme I am using is called “Minimalist” by Joey Robinson. And I am just not sure the proper code language (or placement of) necessary to change the font size, color, upper and lower case ability and so on. I am sure it it possible but missing how to do it! –(yes, I did try substituting different numbers in place of the ones currently in the style sheet but to no effect)

Also — if not being greedy with another request. A link on how to add another parent and child drop down in the side bar (other than what was included with the theme itself) would be oh soooo welcomed knowledge.

here is the link to my current blog site — https://23nine.com/blog

THANKS! Happy to hear any suggestions!

All of the font style and size changes will be made in the theme’s stylesheet but, ideally, you need to know exactly which text you want to change to be able to figure out what CSS selectors you need to focus on. The Firebug add-on for Firefox comes in rather handy in these situations.

And I think you may only be able to have 1 page dropdown menu in that theme. Unless of course, you’re thinking of:

THANKS! — I will check out the link you mentioned for Firefox as soon as I finish tapping out words here.

The link on drop down boxes will take me a few minutes to go thru to realize I have no clue what I am suppose to do! ha! — I m fine with the side bar dropdown as it is currently in the Minimalist theme. But I am thinking there must be ways to ADD a few more headings, other than “pages” “categories”, “archives”, etc.. Obviously I understand how to change the titles of those just not sure how to add a few others???

As to the font editing I think I was trying to set it up first rather than change the actual text written. I will go back and take a look — thanks for the comments!!

Will be happy to hear any further suggestions!

“Pages” “categories” and “archives” are examples of different kinds of WP objects – each with their own template file and listing functions in many cases.

I downloaded Firebug and it is a useful tool — I was easily able to find the text I wanted to alter (edit font size, upper/lower case, etc) in the html & edit tabs. Now if I only knew the proper command to write! ha!

In regards to the WP objects you mentioned above — can you please tell me where I would find other WP objects similar to those that I could add to the current sidebar. If they are just listed as all the “plug-ins”/widgets/ whatever I will certainly look thru them. Or is it possible to just duplicate the same objects and rename them accordingly and use in the sidebar?? I would like to utilize a few more “PAGES” type objects rather than have a list of like 50 items under one heading.

Again, thanks for taking the time to respond — more than appreciated!

Or is it possible to just duplicate the same objects and rename them accordingly and use in the sidebar?

Possibly but each “duplication” would need some amendments so that only certain Pages are listed in each sub-menu.

Have you tried adding Page widgets to the sidebar?

I certainly appreciate your help — truly so!

I have tried adding the “Page” widget from the Widgets area, under the Appearance Tab, in the dashboard but I get this remark when I drag it in the sidebar — “There are no options for this widget.”. If there is a way to amend/or add a new one please clue me in!

I take it there are other widget options for me to utilize that will do what I am asking. That is, add another “PAGES” type header that I can edit into subheadings which can be placed into the sidebar. (like the one that came with the Minimalist Theme.) — I am hoping that is available or that you have one to recommend??!!

Just hoping to find a way to add a new “PAGES” style widget. Whatever you think might work I am all ears! —- thank you so much for your time and effort!

Extra comment — I just uploaded the “flexi pages” widget. And unfortunately it does not seem to like my particular theme. I have tried it several times and while it says it “saves” what I have added it does not apply it to the blog. OH WELL!

Would you mind just tossing a line of code I can employ that will allow me to create a “page”-like dropdown that will open on the site the same way the page widget does!?! I have read thru a years worth of posts that MANY people are looking for the exact same thing — would be thrilled if you have an answer!!

on my blog — https://23nine.com/blog — you can see I have an “EVENT” listing, that I created, and would certainly like to know if I can make that a “page” type dropdown that opens like the page widget that came with the Minimal Theme.

Will look forward to a answer — THANKS for your help — APPRECIATED!

A dropdown (or flyout) menu takes a lot more than just a line of code. I’d suggest you have a look at wp_dropdown_pages or a dropdown menu plugin.
