• This may appear cranky to some readers, but I’m prompted to post after getting some poor results in the Site Performance section at Google Webmaster Tools.

I use caching and wp-minify, by cutting out just about everything I don’t need, I squeeze the size of my front page to just 37Kb. According to Webmaster Tools the site takes 2.7 seconds to load – which is faster than 54% of sites on the web. But my site is extremely minimal.

I’d like to push things further, but I’ve reached the point where there’s nothing else to trim from the pages except some of the Javascript. However, I’m not sure what is and isn’t essential.

What else can go? And are there other WordPress users who’ve found ways to put their pages on an even more extreme diet – if so, what did you do.
