Migration services

  • I am not using WP, so I just chose 4.4 as the one I am using since I think I have to choose something. Anyway, I have a Drupal 6 site that I have decided to move to WP. But all those scripts I see are useless to me for the same reason I am closing now my drupal site: I am not a techie and can’t afford to pay developers every few years.

    So I looked at several migration websites and it is hard to know how reliable. If anyone has comments good or bad about a service, please post.One is called migratetowp (used to have a different name). Price seems rather high.Located in Spain.

    Then there is draconian.com. No prices listed.

    profprojects is another one, seems relatively low.

    then there is cmstowp.com/drupal-to-wordpress/-seems relatively low

    And finally G-converters.
    Which also seems relatively low.

    I don’t necessarily want the cheapest, if the quality is iffy. I also see that migratetowp donates services to a nonprofits, and as I am one, I might ask. but suspect that is not likely.

    Please consider contacting those sites directly for information. Discussing how to migrate is fine but if this topic gets spammy (it happens) then this conversation will get closed.

    If the topic talks about services then this will get closed.

    Thank you, but the reason for my question is that all the talk I see is techie and I do not understand it. One reason to move to WP from Drupal is that I cannot afford to pay to migrate from version 6. At first I tried Blogger, but was convinced I would have more control and a huge user base to turn to.

    I understand you don’t want people to spam with ads, but what would be acceptable here? I was hoping to hear people say that they think X company is reliable but that Y company is a scam.

    I plan to write but the problem is that i worry that I will not be able to make an informed decision since I am starting from zero and price would be the first consideration but not the most important in terms of getting what is promised. I think a newbie needs the benefit of others’ experiences. If this is the wrong place to ask, I wonder if there is a better place.

    So, in conclusion, I don’t want this to become spammy either but am just looking to hear from users, just as in webhostingtalk, they have no spam rules but share info on hosts to avoid.

    I’m sorry but that is exactly that sort of discussion that is avoided and why I’m closing this topic.

    What you are asking is along the lines of hosting recommendations and those get closed immediately with this verbiage.

For more details and other recommendations, please search through the forums or via Google (or your preferred search engine).

    What you are asking is for subjective feedback from users about their experience with company X and company Y. And to be frank, there are companies that provide the exact services you are looking for and they have done the following.

    1. Create a fake account and post an “innocent” question about needing a service such as this.
    2. Create a second fake account and post a stellar reply about that service from company X.
    3. Fake conversation ensues and moderators such as myself develop more lines on our faces.

    Which is a long way for me to reaffirm why I am closing this topic and no, I’m not saying which company that was. ??

    These are software support forums for the code distributed here. If you wish to create a new topic about how to perform the migration yourself, how it works, what technical steps are involved, and what technical pitfalls await you then please do so via this link.

    But please refrain from discussing the pros and cons of companies that provide these services. Those topics will be closed and or deleted.

    For research into those companies try other places. Contact those companies directly, try other places such as Facebook’s AWP group or LinkedIn’s WP groups. But please don’t do that here.

    Edit: Just to be clear: I am not accusing you of that behavior or having any ill will or bad intentions. I know that is not your intentions. But spammy topics are to be closed when found and while I am sorry, this one is remaining closed.
