I’m having some trouble migrating my blog. I’ve followed all of the usual directions, but all I’m getting is the homepage. None of the other links work and I don’t seem to be able to login via wp-admin to change the links. Here’s what I’ve done:

    Backed up files and database
    Changed URLs for old blog
Imported old database to new database on new server
    Uploaded files to new server

I’ve attempted to change links in the database itself, but this doesn’t seem to do the trick.

Any advice would be most appreciated!

    Thanks

  • Did you migrate the correct database?

Yes… Checked that. All the content seems to be there

Are your settings in your wp-config.php file set up properly?

I think so, yes… but a Skype could be really helpful. Really appreciate your time on this, cheers. Just moving to my laptop…

@djdoublexl189 – your help is much appreciated, but it’s forum policy to keep help here. Thanks.

Apologies. Happy to continue on here…

Sorry, I’ll get things switched up.

Anyway, there is definitely a disconnect between your database and your site files. If you can’t even log into WordPress, it sounds like there’s a database issue. The weird thing is I still see posts on the homepage.

I know, the homepage looks totally fine… Looking at the database, the content is certainly there.

The only thing I notice is that the guid column points to the old location/page_id. When I follow this link, I still get a 404.

If the GUID is pointing to a page id, and the permalinks are set to point to a post name url setting, I’d think that would make it be missing?

You really need to get back into your WordPress admin first. Is your email a user in the wp_users part of your database?

    Yes, it’s my email address

I’ve tried resetting the password and changing it in wp_users via phpmyadmin, but even with the new password it won’t let me in to my dashboard… Most annoying!

Hmm. It sounds like something is amiss here. Wish I could help ya more over the support forum man.

No worries… There’s certainly something up! Well, thanks for the time. Will keep searching.

OK, we have a development! I re-edited and uploaded wp-config, then changed the password via phpmyadmin and have now got into my dashboard.

Post editing is as normal, but when I try to view posts I still get 404. They do however work when I reset permalinks to default.
