• Hi there,

I need help migrating my forum from blogger to wordpress. I’ve had my blogger blog for a little over 4 years now and I already got a domain name for it 2 years ago. Now I want to migrate to wordpress. I already have a hosting account but I don’t know what to do to migrate to wordpress since I’m already using the domain on my blogger blog, which can be found here: https://www.dazzlermakeupandbeautyblog.com/. When I ordered my server, I registered my domain name, which is the domain I above, so to access my cpanel I have to temporarily use my ip address. Now I don’t know how to import my blogger blog to wordpress because when I use my ip, it says 404 not found, and when I use my domain it opens to my blog which is a blogger blog. I don’t know how to go from here. Any assistance is highly appreciated.

    Thank you very much.

  • The first thing to do is to change the nameserver on the domain to that of your hosting provider.
After that you need to install WordPress on your hosting account if your hosting provider is using cpanel, then it is possible it comes with softaculous or fantastico these are script installer that will make you to install WordPress.
To move all your blog posts and comments from blogger to WordPress follow the tutorial on this site https://www.makingsenseofcents.com/2013/02/blogger-or-wordpress-tips-on-how-to-move.html
Note the site is not affiliated to me in any way.

Thank you for the response Tubiz, I appreciate it. So I need to point my domain to my hosting’s name servers? I already have installed wordpress on my server using the ip address. So what will happen to my blogger blog if I point the domain to my name servers? Do I need to revert it to the old blogspot address?

Yes that is what you need to do.
What hosting provider are you using?
If you point your domain to your hosting provider nameserver, there is no need for you to revert to the blogspot address.
What is the domain name in question.

If I point my domain to my hosting provider nameserver, will I still be able to access my blogger account using my domain dazzlermakeupandbeautyblog.com? I already have wordpress installed on my server but I couldn’t access it yet because it’s still using the IP address. How can I import my blogger blog to my wordpress blog if I can’t access it? If I point my domain to my hosting provider nameserver, will I be able to access the wordpress I installed on my server? I know that it takes 24-48hrs for the dns changes to propagate so I’m not sure what’s going on before it does.

    I hope I’m making sense and I hope I don’t confuse you.

    Thanks!

You will be able to access your blogger account using youblogname.blogspot.com
So changing your nameservers won’t affect anything.
If you change your nameservers to that of your hosting provider your website will now lead to your WordPress blog.
At time DNS changes takes 10 minutes to propagate.

No you are not confusing me.

At time DNS changes takes 10 minutes to propagate.

DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate.

Oh! ?? Thank you very much! You really helped me to understand the process in words that I will understand. I am not very technical on this matter and I really appreciate your help! I’m now confident that I can do this move because of you. This wasn’t very clear on the blogger to word press migration posts I’ve seen so I was really worried. Thanks again for your time and your help!!! ??

If in case the dns change will takes 72hrs to propagate, I will only be able to migrate my blogger blog to wordpress by then since I’ll only be able to access the blog at that time? Before it propagates, I will still be able to access my blogger blog using the custom domain? What will happen to all my blog URLs posted using my custom domain once the dns change propagates? Will all the URLs be changed to myblog.blogspot.com?

Yes you will still be able to access your blogger blog before dns propagates fully but once it does you will only be able to access your blog via the myblog.blogspot.com url
Read this article https://support.google.com/blogger/troubleshooter/1233381?hl=en#ts=1234251,1734115 as you need to delete both the CNAME and A record you set in your domain control panel so that your domain doesn’t point to google servers.
Yes all your blogpost url will change to myblog.blogspot.com but at that time you have already moved your posts to WordPress so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Thanks Tubiz, you’re such a great help. I have another question though. I’m using google apps for my email so I can access it via gmail together with my other emails. Will pointing my domain to my host’s dns mess up with what I did with the google apps? Do I need to make any changes there?

No it wont, all you need to do is change your nameservers to that of your hosting provider there is no need to change anything for the google apps.
