• Hello,

I am migrating my clients website to self-hosted using the exact same domain. At the moment the new server has a temporary domain. I searched through the forums but could find an exact answer. So I have the following questions:

    – If I give the new server the same domain will Jetpack have any issues migrating my subscribers?
    – What happens when the subscribers are migrated? Are they removedd from the old wordpress.com domain?
    – At the moment we have email subscribers and wordpress.com followers. Are the followeers migrated as well? If yes, they are migrated as what in the new self-hosted website?

    Thank you for your time

You’ll move the subscribers and followers via this guide: https://jetpack.com/support/subscription-migration-tool/

As for the stats, we can move those for you too, just let us know when you’re done moving the site.

    Hello from here as well,

You already helping me on another thread. I read the quide one more time and I have a couple more questions

    1. Towards the end of the article it says “Keep in mind that while your email subscribers will continue to receive email notifications”. The way I understand it is that we will be responsible to sent emails notifications to email subscribers from now on WordPress.com or Jetpack wont do it for us. . Is that correct?

    2. As far as the WordPress.com followers are concerned. As what are they migrated on the new site? Are they stored in the database in the wp_users table – with subscriber type? Or they are basically connected with the Jetpack account and through that they are informed about new posts on the new website?

    Thanks again for your time

    1. No, Jetpack has email subscriptions built-in, they will continue to automatically receive new post emails.

    2. All of your subscribers are stored on our end, attached to your site’s ID in our system.

    Ok thats is great news.

I didn’t know that Jetpack would continue to send email notifications. Sorry I need to get this straight so I can communicate it with my client.

    1. Email subscribers will continue to receive emails just like they do now? We wont have to create a newsletter or anything like that? Is there a cost for this service?
    2. What about new subscribers that we get on our website. How do we add them to the Jetpack email subscriber list?
    3. What about users that register as subscriber users of the new website like with username and password? Can we add those as well?

    Thanks again

    Hi there,

Email subscribers will continue to receive emails just like they do now? We wont have to create a newsletter or anything like that? Is there a cost for this service?

That is correct, nothing will change for them, there is no need to create a newsletter but if your client decided to do that, they can have a look at Mailchimp.

What about new subscribers that we get on our website. How do we add them to the Jetpack email subscriber list?

You can add the Subscription Form Widget to your site, here’s more information on that:

    https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/

What about users that register as subscriber users of the new website like with username and password? Can we add those as well?

Do you mean people who follow your site with their WordPress.com account? Nothing will change for them.

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply. A couple more questions if you dont mind answering

    – About the Subscription Form Widget. Is there a way to know if somebody already subscribed to the blog? Ideally we want to hide the widget if someone already subscribed.

    – Is there any way to change the email that is sent out to our subscribers?

    – Is there a way to automatically add email addresses to our subscriber list?

    Thanks again

If someone is already subscribed using their WordPress.com account and they are visiting your site while being logged in, they will see a message that they are already subscribed. For email subscribers, it’s not possible to do that.

Which email would you like to modify, the one that gets send everytime you post something new? If so no, it can’t be changed. If your client would like to send out custom emails and add subscribers manually, then they will want to use a third-party service, like MailChimp:

    Hello,

I created my new blog using www.remarpro.com. I changed nameservers and everything is tunning on the new self-hosted server. I installed the Jetpack plugin and logged in with my WordPress.com account. I can see both old and new websites in my wordpress.com dashboard. I started the subscriber migration process from old website to the new on Sunday 10 PM. Its been more than a day now and I can see the subscribers migrated to the new website. Do I have to wait longer? Also I read in the threads that if I want the stats to be migrated as well I need to ask you for that? Is that possible?

Finally if I go to do the subscriber migration again to the new website I can see and select the old site anymore?

    Thanks for your help

You don’t have to wait for the subscribers, the migration is instantaneous.

As for moving stats, we can do that for you. What is the URL of the old WordPress.com site?

    Hello,

I can still see all the subscribers on the old website though? Is that normal? I would expect to see all the subscribers as followesrs on the new website.

URL of the old website is maritimecyprus.wordpress.com

    Thank you

    That’s odd!

Ok, I’ve transferred both your stats and subscribers.

If you want to delete the old site, you can following the guide at https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/

    Hi again,

    All transferred.

Thanks you for your help and time

    Hi,
I’m having a similar problem. I’ve recently updated my site and have already deleted my old site. I did not migrate my followers from the old site before hand. I can see two sets of followers and stats for the same URL. The old URL has a folder/directory suffix. But because I’ve already deleted the old site it says it isn’t accessible. so the migration tool won’t work as it can’t see the old site.
Also I have a free jetpack account so I don’t have access to the support ticket system.
    Can anything be done?
I do have a back up of the old site but it isn’t live anywhere at the moment.
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
