Migrating subscribers from stripe/shopify/recharge payments

    Hi

    I recently had my stripe account de activated due to my subscription business being classed as “high risk”

    Stripe have informed me that I can migrate customer data to a new payment gateway and I can export customer data from recharge payments.

    My question is would I be able to migrate my customers over to WooCommerce without them having to re subscribe and carry on charging customers as usual?

    Recharge payments only support stripe, Braintree and authorize.net and Braintree have declined my application so the only option left is authorize.net.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

    I’m not aware of a method that will allow you to swap payment gateways without getting a re-authorization from the customer.

    When customers sign up for a subscription they essentially put an agreement in place with that gateway that gives permission for future charges. That permission is saved as a token, and it’s that token that WooCommerce would present to the gateway as “proof” of this agreement when next they are billed.

    While it might be possible to transfer this agreement between two accounts of the same payment gateway, it won’t work between one payment gateway and the other, and your customers will need to re-agree to it with that new gateway.

    This document below outlines how subscriptions can be migrated, and set up manually, which will email a link to customers that they can click to complete the process. That’s the least painful way to achieve this. Read more here:
