• Hi All,

I have created a new hosting account on the server I have a plan with. I need to move my files and database over to the new username on the same server. Nothing has changed except for the user id. What changes do I need to make to the wp-config file and the database so they will connect when I move the files over to my new username?

I cannot just create a database the same name as the old one because I don’t have control of the account name which is used when you setup your database, for example:

the old database was called: shabangw/wrd9

the new database is going to be: saturnsi/wrd9

    The site is https://brandonoberhamer.com

I hope I have as much info you need to understand what I am trying to accomplish.

    Thanks in advance ??

  • If it is REALLY the same server, then you do not need to change anything – wordpress will still be able to connect to the old database. Just copy the files over ??

One caveat – when your old hosting account gets deleted, the database will be erased as well. If this is not what you want, then I would recommend using this script to move the website over to another account: https://halty.net (once you launch the script, select “Move to another host and keep domain” option, even though you are only switching the username)

Let me know if you need any help with the script.

    Hey Halty,

Once I park the domain from the one server to the other server how can I run the halty_source.php because it would try to pull it from my new server?

Sorry for the dumb question, I am new to web hosting / site building.

    Thanks,

You would need to run it while your domain is still parked to the old place ??
(or you could use any temp. domain if you already moved your domain to the new server)

New server will only need that domain to be parked (but not necessarily working) as you would supply target server IP address to the script.
