• Hi all

I wanted other users’ advice: I need to move a friend’s wordpress site from a sub domain of my site (hosted on Bluehost) to her own hosting provider (123reg), where it will be the primary domain.

Downtime isn’t a concern, so I’ve already repointed her domain name (www.rachelrogers.net) to the new hosts’ servers.

I’ve looked at the separate how-to’s for migrating sites and making a sub-domain the primary. Would it be best to follow these (exporting my entire database, uploading it to her domain and then following the steps to make her site, the sub-domain, the primary?) or is there some other means?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I would use the WORDPRESS IMPORTER and ADD FROM SERVER plugins.

You first export the WordPress data in .XML format and then upload that to the new site.

You can create a compressed archive on Bluehost for the wp-content/uploads directory. Then upload the compressed archive to the new host and use the ADD FROM SERVER plugin to rebuild the media library.
