I have my wordpress site hosted through godaddy with Windows OS. I would like to switch to Linux hosting, however I’m a little worried at how my current site will be affected.

What changes will I need to look out for when I make the switch? Will there be any issues that may cause 404 errors, etc?

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • If Godaddy migrates everything for you, meaning files and database, then don’t know you’d have to change or fix anything.

If they won’t move files and database, and assuming your domain is not changing, then just backup your files, backup your database, then restore your files, and restore your database.

    Thanks MichaelH,

Godaddy said they will move everything over for me and said it would be a “seamless switch,” but I was a little skeptical and wanted to confirm it. I currently use an SMTP plugin, which I assume won’t be necessary in Linux, and I’ve heard there can be issues with permalinks when the switch to Linux from Windows is made…I guess we’ll see.
