Migrating followers from a Mastodon instance

In an older post (Migrate followers from a Mastodon instance? | www.remarpro.com), Matthias Pfefferle explaine that migrating from a Mastodon instance to a WP feat. Activitypub instance was not really recommended.
Is this different/easier/better/recommended now? I would love to run it off one of my sites.
