• Hi all, I am baffled with how to do this with the least amount of manual migration…The site I posted is on it’s last leg, old and can’t edit without a lot of fancy footwork.

We need the same list sorting functionality and for the Name in the list to be connected to an individual static page. Hopefully a “directory” type plugin that has a good looking “Profile” page.

I can get a spreadsheet of the data that can be imported somewhere, but like I said, the Names need to be hyperlinked.

Can this be done with a plugin or should it work as a standalone CMS?

Thanks in advance for any quick replies, and apologies if this is the wrong sub forum to post in…

If each person’s individual data could be imported as a WP post, where the different columns are custom fields of the post and each name was the post’s title, a normal WP post archive page would automatically link to the individual’s page by the name/title. However, a normal archive page wouldn’t include custom fields, so a modified template would be required to include such data. The result could end up somewhat similar to the admin area’s post listing tables, except maybe styled nicer. Notice on the admin list tables that different sorting options are available by clicking the column heads.

The crux of your challenge would be getting the existing data into WP post format. You say all this data is in a spreadsheet. It looks like the current site has data in a database of some sort? A database could also be imported into WP. I’m not sure which would be easier to wrangle into WP post format. A database could possibly be converted by just renaming the columns, but if that was all it took it’d be incredibly lucky. Some sort of spreadsheet import plugin is likely your best option. The key would be importing the data as WP post data to minimize how much additional custom coding would need to be done.

Thanks for the reply! WOW you rock.

I found this https://demo.wpfuneralpress.com/obituaries/clive-johnson/3/ and it has almost exactly what I would need as far as the front end design, and has sortable views via Advanced Search. Stay tuned for more of what I find about migrating.

    Appreciate your help a lot!
