Make sure you’re following WordPress.com’s new guide at https://move.wordpress.com

It sounds like you’re up to step 3: https://move.wordpress.com/themes-and-widgets/

However, if your hosting provider didn’t give you a temporary domain, then you’re definitely going to have trouble with that, as coxhypnotherapy.com is still directed to WordPress.com. So, if that is the case, skip to step 5 first (which can then take anywhere from 1 to 48 hours for the domain change to full propagate to all ISPs), then 3 and 4: https://move.wordpress.com/connect-domain-name/

Thanks James, thats correct I’m up to step 3 but without any knowledge of a temporary domain, I am as you say stuck. I have requested a transfer code and I now have it but loathe to give this to my new host yet, as I am completely in the dark.

My concern is although I have installed wordpress from the cPanel I don’t see any kind of icon on it yet. Am I right in thinking there should be something to click i.e. the W icon for wordpress after I have gone through the install process? Let alone Jetpack – I wouldn’t know where to look to install that either.

I don’t want to move to step 5 and give them the EPP code as I am very unsure of how I would even attempt to step 3 or 4. There’s no online help or guides and their ticket system has been very non descript on what I actually have to do. I was thinking this whole process looked quite logical from the wordpress.com move guide.

In this case, you absolutely have to do step 5 first. You can’t do anything on your new WordPress installation without a domain to access it at, and your domain is still directed to WordPress.com.

Once your domain is directed to your new hosting provider (which can then take anywhere from 1 to 48 hours for the domain change to full propagate to all ISPs), you’ll be able to do steps 3 and 4 *exactly* as they’re described in the guide.

Essentially, WordPress.com’s guide is written from the assumption that you’re moving a example.wordpress.com blog *without* a custom domain to a new self-hosted WordPress site *with* a custom domain, so in this case you’ll need to go a bit out of order.

Their guide is accurate, you just have to approach it from a slightly different direction to start out.

Thanks James, I will leave it for now until the morning. Hopefully planet hippo will come back with a more helpful response as they’ve told me to use ftp! Your explanations are way more clear and trusting for which I am very grateful. Clearly that’s the route to take as you advised
