Migrate blog from iPage to AWS

    I am planning to move my blog from iPage to AWS. I plan to run my blog in an AWS EC2 VM. Do you have any web pages that would help describe this process? I am searching the internet but have yet to find exactly what I need to do.

    I have played with taking a MySQL export from my blog and importing it into a test VM on virtualbox on my laptop. I wasn’t sure if it was better to copy the web site that way or to do the export/import of XML using the plugin.

    I also wonder if I should install WordPress and all the plugins on AWS and then copy the database data or if I should copy the files from the old to the new system.

    Anyway, I am sure that this is a common question. If you can point me to old threads or web pages that are best that would be helpful.

    Could someone elaborate on what this means from the moving-wordpress article:

    “If you had any kind of rewrites (permalinks) setup you must disable .htaccess and reconfigure permalinks when it goes live.”

    I have permalinks set like this on my blog:

    Day and name https://www.bobbydurrettdba.com/2021/01/18/sample-post/

    Does the article mean to say that I am to change something in .htaccess? It looks like the entries in that file are dynamically generated:

    “# The directives (lines) between “BEGIN WordPress” and “END WordPress” are
    # dynamically generated, and should only be modified via WordPress filters.”

    After moving the site, re-save your permalink structure at Settings/Permalinks in your admin panel. If WordPress cannot automatically edit the .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving.
