• Alright, was at first happy to be able to avoid the shakedown plugins like MonsterInsights or GADWP: companies that want to get rich fast, using tools other people built.
As an Admin, Site Kit looks nice enough. Features are okay, if not fabulous. But since I’m a webdesigner and make sites for other people, this plugin is completely useless. Only an Admin has access to, or is able to view the visitors information. I NEVER grant a user Admin access to his website for daily use, but assign them the Editor role: everything they need on a daily basis, without being able to mess things up bigtime (I do grant an Admin account, but for safe-keeping). Hope this will be fixed / updated soon, otherwise most agencies I know won’t use it either. Not a wise implementation.

Same goes for the GA4 tag: not supported… Nice detail: Google only grants GA4 tags to new Analytics accounts. So a Google plugin that doesn’t support a brand new Google Analytics tag that will replace all other tags… Really.

Guys, do you homework. Or don’t release your plugin until it covers the basics.

@espace66 Thanks for your feedback, and sorry to hear you’re unhappy with the plugin in it’s current form. I understand your frustration as a web designer setting up sites for clients, in particular if restricting the end user roles.

Within the open GitHub issue regarding expanding Site Kit to non administrators you’ll find some of the reasoning behind why we restrict Site Kit to administrator role users. Feel free to include any input or subscribe to that issue.

There are numerous considerations before fully supporting GA4 properties. With GA4 not fully supported in AMP just yet and most users not yet migrated it is something high on our agenda. You can follow the progress on this by subscribing to this GitHub issue.

Note also that during Analytics setup (on analytics.google.com) users can choose to select a Universal type property if preferred, or connect a GA4 property with a Universal type property.

We also have more information with suggested setup steps with Site Kit on the plugins website.

    Howdy James,

thanks for you elaborate answer, really appreciate it. You state it correctly: I’m not really satisfied with the plugin in its current form. But yes, things might change for the better.
I get the reasoning from GitHub on why the permissions are set this way, but all in all it’s not a very good excuse: without access from other roles (even just viewing stuff, not editing) Site Kit is useles for most non-site owners. There is a reason why WP has so many user roles. This has a big impact on selecting what analytics tool to use. I personally believe this access restriction should be mentioned first thing in the plugin Details. Will save other users a lot of time.

And yes, discovered the Universal property as a choice. Less of an issue to me, but still somewhat weird. But I get you people are working on it, so good thing.

Thanks for the update. While the team do periodically review all plugins ratings here I’ll be sure to pass on your feedback on both subjects, Google Analytics 4 and more importantly in your case the user roles.

Great, thanks. Will keep an eye on this, and will adjust my review especially when the permission ‘issue’ is resolved.
