Hi there,

I notice this topic came up before, but I wish to see if anyone has a solution now. The pdf viewer is great and works in all browsers except Microsoft Edge which presents a large red box and warning: Microsoft Defender SmartScreen has Blocked this unsafe content. Points to the the pdfjs-viewer-shortcode/pdfjs/web/viewer.php file with the ?file=….(name of file). Interestingly, an iframe does cause the same error. So I think it is something to do with the plugin. Having said that, I submitted the site to Microsoft to correct the problem and await a reply.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks

My users are having the same problem with Microsoft Edge. No one else seems to be having the problem.

My initial thought is, it has to do with using the absolute url in the ?file statement. Can the following be changed?

Current format

https://whatever.com/wp-content/plugins/pdfjs-viewer-shortcode/pdfjs/web/viewer.php?file=https://whatever.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/mytest.pdf&attachment_id=0&dButton=false&pButton=true&oButton=false&sButton=true#page=2

Proposed format:

https://whatever.com/wp-content/plugins/pdfjs-viewer-shortcode/pdfjs/web/viewer.php?file=/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/mytest.pdf&attachment_id=0&dButton=false&pButton=true&oButton=false&sButton=true#page=2

There’s plenty of other conversations on this forum talking about the Microsoft issue. We haven’t found a fix, or a reason why Microsoft is unhappy.

Just adding a note that the plugin author reported the issue to the Mozilla PDF.JS developers on Github back in 2020:

The final comment on there, at time of writing, was this suggestion:
From the warning page, select More information > Report that this site doesn’t contain threats to go to the Microsoft feedback site, and follow the instructions.
