    So I created a new self-hosted WordPress install at https://www.engineered-marketing.com/. Everything appears to be working well. I can edit/create/etc from within wp-admin.

    However, most of the time I prefer to create/edit directly from my laptop and post when finished. Having just paid for Word 2013 (Office 365) I had hoped to be able to do so from it. I remembered there being some blogging functionality in order versions of Word.

    My version of WordPress does not have an option for XML-RPC and I thought it was on by default. The source code of the home page has this line:

    <link rel=”EditURI” type=”application/rsd+xml” title=”RSD” href=”https://www.engineered-marketing.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd&#8221; />

    So again I though XML-RPC was there and already running.

    However, when I try to setup Word 2013 having chosen WordPress as the blog provider in the first page of the form and then providing https://www.engineered-marketing.com/xmlrpc.php in the first field of the second page of the form along with the correct user name and password I perpetually get the error “Word cannot register your account”. I typical Microsoft fashion the Help page tells you that this error means that Word could register your account on the blog and asks if that info was useful. However, the page lacks any info about the possible whys for the error. I’ve checked the user name and password multiple times and they are correct.

    I’ve found some answers on this topic but they were for older versions of WordPress where you had to manually turn on XML-RPC and they have options under Settings >> Writing for turning on XML-RPC. Mine only has settings for Post by Email.

    I know that I didn’t attempt this until I set up iptables on my server. But it is the first time I’ve tried to setup iptables and it seems to have messed up my ability to do an update via the links inside wordpress. (Once I got the FTP to appear to work it gave me errors about the root directory. Which shouldn’t be related but…)

    So any thoughts on why I can’t register my blog via Word 2013 (Office 365)?
