Microsoft IIS Upgrade plugins fails "Could not create directory"

  • Operating System : WINNT
    Server : Microsoft-IIS/7.5
    MYSQL Version : 5.1.57-community
    PHP Version : 5.3.10

    When using auto update for quite a few plugins the process fails because of “Could not create directory” errors.

    Updating the core WP works fine and some plugins are ok but on this particular site around 60% of them fail the upgrade process.

    The work around is then to delete the folder ( at the server end via FTP or other system tools) and do a fresh install of the plugin.

    It looks like a permission error. Typically on a Linux server we set these at 755 and it all works but for some reason the equivalent MS doesn’t work.

  • Can you manually upload to these directories?
    If so, upload the -unzipped- updates to the respective directories and activate the plugins / widgets if required.
    You should be alright.

    Thanks kwalizorg due to security on this particular server I dont have FTP or SFTP access.

    What I don’t understand is why some auto updates work and others dont. Obviously all of the folders exist already and the plugins work its just that the update process fails for some of those plugins because of the “could not create directory” error.
