• My footer code is NOT encrypted. I am happy to leave a link to the author below the template I am using. I was able to remove lots of superfluous links, but ONE: its a url for a Mexican drug site. It will NOT allow me to remove it without prohibiting access to my entire site. WHAT CAN I DO?

(I’m removing the link I answered with because I’ve had to scrap the template)

My son, a webmaster, is researching this problem with me – we find there is a possibility that this entire template is full of iffy encrypted code. We might have to start with a plain template and start all over. Do you think this may be the case?

That’s definitely possible…I’d recommend choosing a theme from the Theme Directory.

Just in case anyone else comes up with this problem (I googled and googled before writing in here, and nothing like this presented itself), just realize that some of the free WordPress themes offered are corrupt in the functions.php. I was all set up and ready to go visually with a particular template, which we had customized further, but now I am scrapping it and starting all over.

My advice to anyone who ends up with ad links in their footer that are NOT encrypted, yet they won’t go, is – look for another theme.
