Metaslider doesnt use smaller images for small screens

    I noticed that metaslider is always loading the fullsize images, even if the page is opened on device with a very small screen, thus increasing load times.
    I uploaded the images through wordpess, thus there are smaller versions and @2 retina versions of each image on my server, but it seems they are not used.
    I am using the flexslider with 2modifications (that seem unrelated to the problem): the images are set to object-fit:cover and clicking on the image advances the slider to the next image.
    Any help would be much apreciated!
