meta tags – keywords and description

  • Is it important to add keyword and description meta tags to the header of my wordpress blog?I’ve read that wordpress themes do not contain these,in the header.php.Could this be why my blog’s description does not show up on Google when a search is done?And once I add these,how long will it take for the results.In other words,how long till my descriptions show up on google (SERP’s)

    Not necessarily. Google decides what it will, and won’t show. You can offer suggestions via well crafted meta-descriptions that correspond closely with your page content but you cannot force Google to display these.

    And once I add these,how long will it take for the results.

    Could be days. Could be weeks. again – there is no hard and fast rule.

    Thanks for the answers.One last thing.Not only do they(Google) not show my descriptions they don’t show any desription or information about my site,where all other sites have some type of short meaningful account of what is on there website.Mine does not,and only shows the web address/link and keyword.If you search on Google.ca for “groom speech” my site shows up on the second page as

    groom speech
    thegroomspeech.ca/

    Any idea why this happens,with no descriptions?
