    Hello Team,

I have been using your plugin for a long time and it helps me a lot. But some time ago, there has been some issue in which the solution is not available.

The number of index pages in Google suddenly went up, after studying it found that the “noindex” tag has been removed from my “tags” and “categories” page.

When I checked in the plugin’s settings “Show Categories/Tags in search results?”
    toggled to “no” itself.

But the “index, follow” is still showing in the source code of the page.

I tried to reactivate the plugin and I reinstall the plugin. my plugin is up to date. but robots meta tag is not changing… Please guide me on how to fix this issue.

    Regards

@iskgti For any given Tag or Category on your site, the setting for ‘Show in search results’ can be set in two different areas. One is the global setting for that taxonomy type which is configured in WordPress by going to SEO>Search Appearance>Taxonomies. This sets the default for all Tag/Categories respectively by setting the ‘Show in search results’ setting for the corresponding taxonomy type to ‘No.’

This setting can also be configured on a per Tag/Category level in the Yoast metabox when on the edit screen for a particular Tag or Category. We would also recommend checking the setting for any Tag/Category where you are experiencing this issue here as well. You can do so by performing the following actions:

? Go to the Edit screen for a Tag/Category
? Scroll down to the Yoast Metabox
? Click on the ‘Advanced’ area
? For ‘Allow search engines to show this in search results?’ make sure this is set to ‘No’
Note (setting this value to ‘Yes’ will set meta robots to ‘index’ and setting ‘No’ would set meta robots to ‘noindex’)
? Click ‘Update’ to save changes

Also, after updating these settings we would then recommend to clear your site’s cache as well.

We also have a guide on configuring the robots meta tag located at the following link: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/yoast-seo-robots-meta-configuration/ as well as a guide on how to set a page/post’s meta robots tag to index/noindex here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-do-i-noindex-urls/

    Hello Carl B,

Thank you, you paid attention to my issue.

Whenever I change in global settings, it does not reflect on the page, but like you said we can also do noindex one by one, after doing the same the noindex tag shows on the page.

Can you tell me how can I fix the issue with global settings? It will make me much easier. because there are hundreds of categories and thousands of tag are live already.

    Hi,

    Just to clarify,

In the global settings of SEO > Search Appearance > Taxonomies > Show in search results for categories and tags is set to ‘no’.

But when checking on an individual category or tag, and then checking the advanced area of the Yoast SEO meta box, could you check if the global value is being honored? Or did you set it to show in the search results as ‘yes’ for that specific category or tag? Could you please provide us with a screenshot of your view from the Yoast SEO meta box for that field and a sample URL?
