Meta Tag Description Redundancy

your theme might have a line with the meat description code programmed into header.php, just below the <title> tag;
if so, remove it, to alow the search engines to pick up the seo plugin’s description which, if filled in properly per page/post, should be differnent for the pages.

I’m using Genesis framework with the Georgia child theme. The only place I see the header.php file is in Genesis. Do I make the change there?

I just looked at the Genesis header.php and it say’s under no circumstance make changes to this file.

Would I make the change to the style sheet for the child theme?

looking at my seo I have 53 pages with the same description

where is that information coming from?

how recently have you added the seo plugin and filled in all meta descriptions for all your pages, posts, templates?

some of your pages don’t seem to have the meta description at all, so maybe the search engines take it from your tag line.

I’m getting this from Attracta seo score. How can you tell, and where do I look for meta descriptions for my pages, or the absence of a meta description?

I think I added the plugin the day before yesterday.

I know I go in and add a description for my posts, and add keywords, and that stumps me as well since my seo plugin is set to dynamically add them.

I’m just really confused about meta tags. I mean I know what they are but I don’t understand where to make the changes. It’s frustrating.

i don’t work with any seo plugin;

however, i assume it has more than sufficient options to add whatever meta description is needed; possibly, you need to edit each page to find the meta boxes to enter individual descriptions. for posts, it seems to use the excerpt automatically.

in your browser, when viewing a page, click ‘view’ ‘view source’ (or similar) on the browser tool bar – this will show the html code of your site, where you will find an area with the output from your seo plugin:

generally: meta descriptions don’t seem to be too important for search engine rating, however, they are usually the bit of content showing with the search result – so it is more for your human viewers…

I could use the HTML editor in the dashboard. Ok, so i need to figure out how to prevent search engines from using my tagline as a description. This is where my problem is.
