I am working on a website for a customer where we are at a particular domain and web host, but are tired of the performance of the domain host so we are making a lot of changes. They are moving domain hosts, AS WELL AS using a new domain name. We will soon be utilizing some domain masking but that’s a topic for another day.

I have made the migration from one web host to another and at the same time have also changed the domain/URL, and the site works perfectly with the exception of the Meta Slider. It does not load on the homepage, and it doesn’t save correctly in the admin dashboard. The images are available when I choose the “add slide” option, and I’ve even tried creating a new slider. The same issues persist throughout. It doesn’t matter how many times I save, check and uncheck options, etc.; it just doesn’t work on the new site.

Any help would be appreciated. I’m including links to the old site where the slider still works, as well as the new site where the slider does not.

The issue can be found here: new site – https://windts-sctv.com/ old site – https://santacruztelevision.com/ (slider still working here)
    The preview works: No
It works with other themes: Haven’t Tried
It works when I disable all other plugins: Haven’t Tried
    Meta Slider version: 1.1 / 1.2 / 1.3 / 2.0 / 2.1 / 2.1.1 / 3.3

  • hi @brettroby

How did you import the images? I’m guessing that you re-uploaded them instead of migrating them? MetaSlider assigns the image attachment ID to the slide, so if that attachment ID no longer matches the image asset then it will be searching for something that doesn’t exist. I believe if you use the WP export/import tool it will work when you select to import the images.

We have plans to integrate a custom import/export tool but we’re not there yet with a release schedule.

If you would like me to look in the admin area of your site, you can send us an email through the support area and I’ll get back to you. Just mention my name (Kevin) so they will assign it to me.

    Hi @kbat82,

    Thanks for the prompt reply!

Yes, I simply copied all of the WP data from the old site and then uploaded it to the new domain host. I didn’t do any sort of special import or anything like that.

Are there any other options for this situation? I’m curious about how even when I create a new slider, it still doesn’t work.

I would have to see what’s happening more closely to figure out what’s going on. Do you think you have something wrong with your configuration? Did you update all the links from the old site to the new?

Do you see any specific errors when you attempt to create a new slideshow or slide?

Also, check the javascript console for errors too.

When I am on the homepage, I get the following failure:

[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) (jquery.form.min.js.map, line 0)

That is just a copy and paste of what I am able to copy and paste from the console of Safari. The full path to that is (supposed to be) https://windts-sctv.com/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.form.min.js.map

I did not update links. Should I use a special tool/plugin for that?

Thank you for your help. If these couple messages back and forth don’t fix it, then I’ll set up a temporary user and login for you. I’m just really reluctant right now because the site was hacked on the previous domain so everything is suspicious to me at the moment and I am very guarded about anything that happens on the site.

If you moved to https://windts-sctv.com/ from https://santacruztelevision.com/ then you need to update the database links to reflect this. I don’t think your site would work at all though so you must have done something.

You can check with this plugin I think. i never used it though.

I installed that plugin, gave that a shot and received this report back:

Success! Your URLs have been updated.
    Results
0 Content Items (Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types, Revisions)
    0 Excerpts
    0 Links
    0 Attachments
    19 Custom Fields

I still didn’t see any resolution, however. I even did some save, re-saves, etc., to try and force it through. No dice.

Just ran it again, this time trying it with “www” in the URL. I got the following:

    Results
380 Content Items (Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types, Revisions)
    299 Excerpts
    0 Links
    20 Attachments
    256 Custom Fields

MetaSlider still isn’t working, though. Bummer.

What errors do you get when you try to create new slides?

    Thread Starter brettroby

    (@brettroby)

No errors whatsoever. It just seemingly “saves” but nothing actually saves in terms of the slider coming back up on the public site. When I leave the MetaSlider admin area, the slider that I just saved isn’t there anymore. The details for the slider are there as far as the title of the slider itself, but the slides (images/thumbnails) are not. I add them back, then save, but it just doesn’t “keep” for lack of a better description. Preview doesn’t work either, even after I add slides back into to the slider (and save).

Okay, do me a favor and when you attempt to save or preview, check the javascript console and see what it says.

    (@brettroby)

    OK. Thanks.

    Preview errors:

[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (HTTP/2.0 404) (tcc_l.combined.1.0.6.min.js.map, line 0)

[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) (jquery.form.min.js.map, line 0)

    Save errors:

(seem to be the same; i.e. no change in error log)

Okay, looks like an error with another plugin then. Maybe a form plugin? Can you disable plugins you suspect might be causing this and try again?

    Thread Starter brettroby

    (@brettroby)

Darn it. Nothing seems to be working. Looks like I might have to go next level and get you in there on the admin side to poke around.

I went ahead and sent a message through the support portal at https://www.metaslider.com/support/. Hopefully you’ll be able to get that message and we can get to the bottom of this thing.

I really appreciate your help so far.

    Hi @crothermel83,

When you add a slide to a slideshow in the admin area, do you see any errors in the Javascript console?

Here is how to check the console:
