I just removed the plugin causing the above issue, but Facebook share button still won’t show an image with the blog post on Facebook

In case you were still wondering, I was also finding this issue annoying and wanted to fix it as “theme/images/default_icon.jpg” didn’t exist and was returning nasty “file not found” errors.

I was – and still am – using April’s Facebook Like Button which in its settings allows you to specify a default image – at a site level, rather than per page.

I’ve not seen the same level of edit-ability in other FB Like Button plugins – including ShareDaddy – but I’m happy to see evidence to the contrary.
