[Fri Jan 12 23:07:42.367543 2018] [:error] [pid 31623] [client —-] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 64 bytes) in /var/www/wp-includes/meta.php on line 840, referer: https://www.domain.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1082&action=edit

One of my users is getting a blank screen when they try to use the dashboard. My error logs show this error message.

I think 128MB should be enough memory to run wordpress. I can bump up, but is there something else going on that I can fix?

  • It’s probably just what it says on the tine – you’ve run out of PHP memory.

There are three ways to increase PHP’s memory allocation:

    1. If you can edit or override the system php.ini file, increase the memory limit. For example, memory_limit = 256M

    2. If you cannot edit or override the system php.ini file, add php_value memory_limit 256M to your .htaccess file.

    3. If neither of these work, it’s time to ask your hosting provider to increase PHP’s memory allocation on your account.
