    Yoast Version 1.2.8.7

I’ve noticed that paginated content on my site, such as tag pages and pages using custom queries ($wp_query = new WP_Query($args); … ) only show my meta descriptions (set via Yoast) on the first page.

Subsequent pages have no meta description (but do have other Yoast-generated tags in the head, such as canonical, social, next, prev links etc).

Is this a features (maybe to avoid duplicate content) or is this not working properly for me?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

  • The same issue. And impessing silence in the support topics… It is really strange.

I am having this problem as well.

I have my templates set up as %%sitedesc%% %%page%% to avoid duplicated meta descriptions, but the meta description on shows up on the first page.

Not be overly repetitive, but I’m also having this problem and I haven’t seen a solution anywhere.

For me, I want the meta description to show up on the paginated content, in this case it’s a category archive like so: /category/catname/page/3/

But the meta description that I’ve entered is only showing up on page 1(/category/catname) and not these paginated pages.

Add me to this list as well. I am also using the Yoast SEO plugin.

Same problem here. MOZ does not like this.

According to Yoast (https://twitter.com/yoast/status/372393537771667456), this is on purpose. It’s to prevent duplicate meta descriptions in Google Webmaster tools.

So, even though MOZ is marking this as a problem, I guess it’s not an issue from an SEO point of view.

Okay, that’s good enough for me. Thanks for the info.

It is normal … however, I modified the plugin to have descriptions on very page, even nextgen pages …

And the next update will erase your mod’s… It’s not a good solution.

It is not difficult to update, unless updates come everyday. It’s a great solution for me. The mod ensures every page has a unique title and description and proper length. YMMV.

I just love looking at this report from Google Webmaster when I click on the HTML Improvements report:

HTML Improvements Last updated Aug 26, 2013 We didn’t detect any content issues with your site. As we crawl your site, we check it to detect any potential issues with content on your pages, including duplicate, missing, or problematic title tags or meta descriptions. These issues won’t prevent your site from appearing in Google search results, but paying attention to them can provide Google with more information and even help drive traffic to your site. For example, title and meta description text can appear in search results, and useful, descriptive text is more likely to be clicked on by users. More Information
