• In a theme we’re using, we added support for excerpts to pages, which seems to have created a bug in All-in-One SEO Pack: even though Autogenerate Descriptions is turned off, pages that have excerpts (but not AIOSP descriptions) are outputting meta descriptions on the front-end.

Pages that do not have excerpts are not experiencing this problem.

Pages that have AIOSP descriptions and excerpts display the correct AIOSP description.

    Hi jhned,

This is correct behavior for All in One SEO Pack. We’ve always used the Excerpt as the Meta Description unless you manually enter a Meta Description in the SEO Description field.

Then why bother having an Autogenerate Descriptions option if the plugin is just going to generate a description regardless?

    Hi jhned,

I am sorry but the plugin has worked this way for 7 years and we’ve never received any feedback from users that they don’t like the way this feature works. We have to go with the majority consensus so if the majority like the way this feature works then we won’t change it.

I can check to see if there is a hook in our API to disable this and provide that to you if you like. I’ll also make sure that the documentation makes it clearer how this works.
