I have 150 characters including spaces, comma’s and full stops in my meta description but it tells me I have over 156 and I cannot get rid of the red line that comes with it.

    Hello @danielsteel,

Thanks for reching out about your meta description length. The?meta descriptions are between 150 and 170 characters, and Google truncates the ones that exceed this length. We suggest keeping the length to 156 characters maximum.?However, that maximum also includes the date (which can be added to the search results by Google). For example, “March 21, 2024 – ” adds 17 more characters to the meta description.

So, it’s important to factor it in when you decide on the length of your meta description. Unfortunately, there’s no way to control whether this date is shown directly, but you can try to manage the dates they use in the search results (this is a WP article, but most of the same principles apply).

Having said that, please note that the Yoast SEO analysis only offers suggestions based on general SEO principles. There are many situations where you’d want to ignore them and use your own best judgment. You may also refer to this article:?Yoast SEO Assessments: Overview?and?the ultimate guide to Content SEO
