    Hello, sometimes there’s “weird content” in google meta description. I know meta description is personal and Google doesn’t need to include the one that is filled in in Yoast.

    The problem is that sometimes there are information that are not content such as author’s name, reading time or “Advertisement” – is there a way how to force excluding these “maintenance” info from Google?

    Thanks

    @kubazabran Thanks for your message.

    Whereas Google typically uses the title and meta description from the page’s metadata for indexing, this is not always the case. Google will sometimes modify or ignore the title and meta description when it sees fit, as well as sometimes adding the brand or site name to the end of your title.

    This behavior is not due to the plugin not functioning as expected, but rather is due to Google using another value for the title and meta description that it indexes, as it’s algorithm has concluded that there is a better version to index. We have additional information on this topic available at the following links: Google Shows Different Titles For My Site and Google Shows The Wrong Meta Description For My Site.

    ?If Google is ignoring the title or meta description you have created for a page and creating it’s own based off the page’s content, we would recommend creating new ones that reflect the page’s content. Please refer to the aforementioned articles as they include recommendations for crafting a page title which will help increase the likelihood that Google will use the title and meta description that you specified, instead of it’s modified version.

    I know this. My question was whether there is a way of how to hide certain information from Google so it wouldn’t display it in meta description. Typically, “Advertisement” or “Reading Time” info – it is not content, yet Google sometimes includes it.

    Can you share a screenshot of what you are refering to, @kubazabran? You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image-sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

    For example here – see the “- Advertisement -” in the end of meta description. We wanna get rid of it.

    When I perform a site search, I don’t see that text in the meta description. See screenshot. Or am I checking the wrong post?

    Actually, I removed the “- Advertisement -” entirely from the code as a workaround. If you wanna see real example, put this to Google:

    “not a concept car site:carnewschina.com”

    You should see same as I see here: https://pasteboard.co/gQF9kyl7Yn23.png

    Right! I see what you mean here. So Google is pulling something different as the meta description for that post while including the post meta data added by your theme.

    Here’s the meta description in the page source which doesn’t include that meta data from the theme:

    <meta name="description" content="Human Horizons unveiled its fourth car under the HiPhi brand, HiPhi A. The electric supercar is built on an 800V platform, and the battery can discharge 1.5MW at its peak, according to HiPhi." />

    The Yoast SEO can’t help here but you may consider speaking with the theme developer also.
