I have just installed Yoast and converted the SEO details from Genesis.

In every page of the site’s the code I see:

<!– Admin only notice: this page doesn’t show a meta description because it doesn’t have one, either write it for this page specifically or go into the SEO ->

In this example there was a meta description which now reappears in two other places:

<meta property=”og:description” content=”Agnes Water is one of the smallest and most unspoilt seaside resorts I have ever visited and I love it. The beach is absolutely beautiful and often almost deserted and the sea is wonderful but you should be aware of the possibility of stingers. The Town of 1770 is 5km from Agnes Water and is …” />

<meta name=”twitter:description” content=”Agnes Water is one of the smallest and most unspoilt seaside resorts I have ever visited and I love it. The beach is absolutely beautiful and often almost deserted and the sea is wonderful but you should be aware of the possibility of stingers. The Town of 1770 is 5km from Agnes Water and is […]” />

Can someone kindly advise as to what is happening here and suggest how I fix it. Thanks.

  • Can you please go to the edit screen of that page and make sure you’ve filled in a meta description in the Yoast snippet editor?

Alternatively, you may want to add the variable %%excerpt%% to the meta description template of your pages under “SEO > Titles & Metas”. This will automatically generate a meta description based on the page excerpt of the page in cases where you haven’t defined a meta description in the Yoast snippet editor.

Please, refer to this KB article for more information: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/yoast-wordpress-seo-titles-metas-template-variables/

That’s the point … there were meta descriptions on every page before I downloaded Yoast and transported the SEO data from Genesis.

The original descriptions appear in the source code under <meta property=”og:description” content=” and under <meta name=”twitter:description” content=” but not as the meta description.

Four other sites transferred the meta descriptions correctly following the same process so I don’t know what happened here.

@4020-1 Can you please deactivate the Yoast SEO plugin temporarily to check whether the Genesis SEO → Meta description field has the meta description?

If the Genesis SEO → Meta description field has the relevant meta description but the relevant meta description isn’t showing in our plugin <meta name="description" content=""/> meta, we’d be happy to investigate this issue further.
