Hello Team Yoast. Hope you are well.

I have an issue with the meta description. Basically, I am using Molongui to create guest users and do not rely on WordPress’s own user/author feature. Now Ubersuggest has brought to my attention an SEO issue. It says that 42 of my pages have no meta descriptions (all these pages are Molongui generated guest authors). Molongui is saying that it is generating the meta tags such as title, description, etc but it is weird why ubersuggest is not detecting this. Furthermore, the source code for guest authors gives a warning too which Yoast generates. So for example, if you go to the guest author https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/author/arfah-zia/ and check its source code, you will see the meta tags that I just mentioned (Molongui ones) but if you ctrl + f and type “this page does not” you will find this message <!– Admin only notice: this page does not show a meta description because it does not have one, either write it for this page specifically or go into the [SEO – Search Appearance] menu and set up a template. –>

However, if you do the same for a wordpress-generated user (for example https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/author/aleena-imran-2/), this above message does not show up. So it could be that molongui might be generating the meta tags but for some reason it is not being counted as a meta description (as cited by ubersuggest).

I just wanted to know if a proper meta description is being generated by Molongui and if so why does Yost and ubersuggest say otherwise? If it is not being generated, then what is the solution. I have asked Molongui as well and will keep you in touch.

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Hi,

If a page lacks a meta description Ubersuggests and other SEO tools will pick up on this. In same cases, you can ignore it. This is true for certain kinds of pages or if you intentionally left it blank.

However, as it seems like all your author pages should have a meta description, we would expect Yoast to generate one. We would like some more information to help troubleshoot this.

    1. If you go to SEO-Search Appearance-Archives are they enabled? If so, do you have anything in the meta description? Can you take a screenshot of what appears? You can use a tool like: https://imgbb.com/ to share the image.

    2. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.6.1? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

    3. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    4. If you go to the Users and find this user https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/author/arfah-zia/ and scroll down there should be a section for Yoast SEO Settings. Can you take a screenshot of that whole section or describe to us how each item is configured?

    1. This is what I see https://ibb.co/YhvL5zc

    2. I am using WordPress 5.6.2 (latest)

    3. Yes

    4. So here is the issue. Since the guest authors are being made using Molongui, I do not see any Yoast Seo Options that I would see if I made the users via WordPress itself. Here are some images of Molongui and how we make guest authors:
https://ibb.co/ZhDVhmv and https://ibb.co/0VVw6FN (on the bottom left you can see a Yoast option but it is not related to meta description).

Secondly, If I go to a guest author (made using Molongui) such as https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/author/arfah-zia/ and try to “Edit User” (which is a WordPress option), I cannot – it says invalid user id. The only way I can edit a Molongui-made user is by going into the plugin and editing a guest author from there.

Thank you for that extra information. We are having a difficult time trying to reproduce the issue as we do not have access to the Molongui premium or any of the add-on plugins they sell.

It is odd that it appears on the sitemap https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/guest-author-sitemap.xml yet those Guest Author content types lack the Yoast SEO Metabox at the bottom.

We are not sure if this is expected behavior with your site or if it is a deeper issue.

As we are not familiar with Molongui we ask the following:

    1. What kind of content types are those Guest Authors? Are they Posts or Pages or Custom Post Types or Author Pages or Archive Pages or something else? If you are not sure the Molongui plugin authors can help.

    2. Are those Guest Author content types public or private content types? If you are not sure the Molongui plugin authors can help.

    3. If you disable any Molongui plugin’s or features which are outputting tags on the Guest Author URLs like https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/author/aimen-babur/ does the issue resolve?

    Hello!

I can give you access to my staging website so you can see the issue there firsthand.

    1. I think they are archive pages but I have asked them and will confirm to you.

    2. They should be public but I will ask them and let you know.

    3. If you deactivate the plugin, then the page stops existing.

Please do let me know if you need access to the latest staging website.

Here is their reply to your queries:

“1) It is a Custom Post Type

    2) It is a private CPT. Yet it is displayed in Yoast’s sitemaps because we add it manually. We know it being public would get it added automatically to their sitemaps but we decided to make it private to avoid other plugins (like Yoast) to place their metaboxes on the edit screen of our CPT.

And 3) if you disable the Molongui Authorship Pro plugin, you won’t get access to guest author pages, as they are generated by the plugin. Which is the issue you are experiencing here, Sarmad? The “missing description field on guest author pages”?

Thanks for clarifying everything. If the Molongui offers a private custom post type, Yoast SEO won’t show the meta box, nor will add anything to the sitemap. We see that you have added the relevant custom post types generated links manually to the sitemap index.

We are afraid to say that Yoast SEO won’t be able to generate the SEO title, meta description, and the robots meta on the Molongui custom post types since it is currently set to private.

So, if you really want to optimize the Molongui post types using Yoast SEO, you’ll need to make the relevant post types public. If you’re not sure how to go about doing this, you’ll need to reach out to the relevant plugin support for further assistance on this.

@mazedulislamkhan You helped me with a problem a few days ago regarding the wrong author title being displayed.

The interesting thing about this problem is that on one of my staging sites (staging 32), this “…this page does not show a meta description….” by Yoast does not get displayed.

How can that be? I am all set to give you access to staging 32 so you can check this further.

I have also forwarded what you have stated here to Molongui.

    Hope you can help

Thanks for your clarification. As much as we’d love to investigate the issue further by taking a look at the staging site, we can’t as this is a public forum.

So, if you have an active Yoast SEO Premium subscription or if you can consider buying one, we can investigate the issue further directly on your setup privately through email.

However, if you don’t wish to get the Yoast SEO Premium subscription, that’s completely fine. In this case, you’ll need to troubleshoot the issue further on your setup as we are literally out of any clue at this moment without taking a look at the setup. So, someone from the community might step forward as well who has experienced the issue or familiar with the parent/child breadcrumbs relationship.

That said, the message <!– Admin only notice: this page does not show a meta description because it does not have one, either write it for this page specifically or go into the [SEO – Search Appearance] menu and set up a template. –> you’re referring to here appears on the front end part source code when no meta description is provided. So, it is expected to have the relevant notice as you haven’t added a meta description, nor you could actually as the relevant post type is set to private where Yoast SEO meta box won’t appear.

Maybe someone watching these forums can assist you further, but if your topic is inactive for 7 days, we’ll mark it as resolved to keep the overview.
