So, I stupidly messed up while setting up a WP install for my site, through hostgator/softaculous. I think the problem is that I left the email address as the suggested one, which was something like admin@<siteaddress> which, as far as I’m aware, doesn’t exist? I also, doubly idiotically, created a limit to login attempts, so I can’t even mess around to figure it out.

A ‘forgot password’ email goes God-knows where, so I’m essentially locked out of my site. I tried a brand new install of WP through the same method as before and it says I need to uninstall it. I don’t even know how to do that!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • You could log into the database via the PHPMYADMIN tool on hostgator, and edit the wp_users database to change the registered email to your new one. Failing that edit wp_options and change the contents of admin_email to your new one.

If you cannot do that delete the WordPress files and folders using a FTP, then remove the database using the control panel in hostgator and reinstall.
