• Help! I just installed WP and I know nothing about it. So, don’t ask me why my first inclination was to change the template. Anyhoo, I went to Alexking and found a nice simple little template. I downloaded it and figured it was like an other template. So I just copied and pasted. Viola! Only it didn’t work. Now, I don’t have the default template, nor do I know where to find it or how to fix my mistake. Can anybody help? I promise I won’t touch it until I know what I’m doing. Pinky swear.

  • If you still have the wordpress zip file, simply unzip index.php and wp-layout.css into your wordpress installation folder again. If you don’t still have the zip, download it from the download section.

Oh gosh, I’m way over my head with this. I’m not exactly sure what you are trying to explain to me. What I did was delete the index.php file and pasted the code of another template (someway ,somehow I missed a few steps) and all i got was a bunch of garbled code when I viewed my site. I don’t know where wp-layout.css is. And to the other poster…Dreamhost has a one click install for WP. So as for the zip. I don’t have it. Could I just manually download WP take the code from it?

Log onto your site via FTP (with an FTP app). You will find your WordPress files in the directory: yourdomain.com/blog/ Here you can upload, download, and delete files. You can find your FTP login information in your control panel.

I couldn’t download WP from this site for some reason or other, so I decided to just delete the whole thing and start over.
