• Hi All,

I have a strange behaviour on my WP multisite environment.

I Created a child theme of the Twenty Twenty-Three theme on a local single site server. Everything works fine. Then I exported the child theme and imported it to another local single site server. Works here too.

Next step I uploaded the child theme to my multi site web space. After installing I got the message “The parent theme is missing. Please install the “twentytwentythree” parent theme.“, but the parent theme is installed and working.

Strange: The website itself is working with some restrictions (wrong fonts, wrong font size). But when I try to edit the child theme I get a white page displayed. When I edit a post there is no “Featured image” menu available and in the settings of the block editor it doesn’t show up too.

I’d be more than happy if someone has an idea.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @schroederskater,

The issue that you are facing might be because WordPress looks at the parent-theme directory name as a reference, and is case-sensitive.

You can have a look at this document to resolve your issue: https://www.indowhiz.com/articles/en/wordpress-parent-theme-missing/

    Thanks!

Thank you, but this is not the issue. If it were the case I couldn’t have used the child theme in a single site environment as well.

Meanwhile I disabled the multi site environment and installed a new single site WP which works fine. Not the solution I want, but a solution. Anyway, if someone has an idea what the issue is, I’d like to go back to the multi site installation.

Hi I have the same problem (multisite, Twenty Twenty Three Child Theme). I used Twenty Twenty Two instead and it works fine. Or did you come up with a solution?
Edit: happens only when I have WooCommerce enabled. Also breaks Full Site Editing (blank page).

No, I don’t use MultiSite anymore. I thought someday I might try to combine the two themes into a new one and try again.

Thanks for the response. I have a workaround (for me), there is an option to download the whole theme (in site editor the top right menu). Then I upload again so no child theme anymore. I had to edit functions.php because the stylesheet was not loaded but otherwise plug and play. Disadvantage: If the parent theme is updated I don’t get the updates…

Hi all, can you give me some additional context as to how you have your multisites setup? I replied to @schwimmlehrer here, so if you could give me some extra insight into how your multisite is setup so we can determine the root of the issue.
