Merging old site with new version
-
Hi,
I have done some searching on this but haven’t really found anything definitive for my situation.
After moving my domain to Dreamhost, I decided I needed to update my web site. So, I exported the site as it was and imported it into an installation on the default domain that came with the ISP. I’m getting to the point where I am starting to think about launching the new-look site, but I am wondering how.
The only thing that I am worried about keeping from the old site is the blog posts that have happened since the original export. The new site will otherwise be completely new, although with pretty much the same plugins. Everything is completely up-to-date. My current thought is that I export the blog posts from the old site and import them into the new site, hoping that existing posts are not duplicated. Then export the entire site and import it to the old site on my domain. However, I am concerned there may be issues with links, or is WordPress clever enough to deal with that? I also assume I will be left with the pages from the old site.
I guess as I write this I wonder if I actually have to export the database from the old site and set everything up from scratch!
Any hints or direction to online resources gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.
Kevin
