Menus odd behaviour help please

  • Hi,

    I am trying to change one of the elements in the top menu (Menu A) on the site.

    Whenever I try to do this it times out or crashes.

    Instead I have tried creating a new menu (menu B) and then changing the Theme Location menu to be displayed to Menu B. But although the page says it has saved the new menu to be used, the website doesn’t update.

    Further info:
    As an experiment I tried adding a menu in a different location. The new menu appeared straight away. But removing the menu from the Theme Location doesn’t remove the menu from the website. The only way to get rid of it is to delete the whole new menu.

    Any ideas how to update the menu?

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

    Have you tried deactivating your plugins to see if any are causing this behavior?

    If not, have you tried switching to a default theme (with plugins off) to see if it’s a theme-specific issue?

    Thanks for the replies. I will try that, but will have to be tomorrow. It has worked fine until now though. Is it likely plugins would affect the menus?

    It could be either one of your plugins or it could be your theme. There is no way to tell until you carry out the steps we suggested.

    Hi,

    The menu worked when I reverted to 2013 theme.
    So this means there is a problem with the theme? I have no idea where to start looking to fix it.

    I know all bugs are different, but generally is this sort of issue something I could get a WP expert to find and fix, or is it needle in a haystack territory.
