I have installed WP 4.1 on a server and just cannot get the menu system working, tried fully re-installing and still won’t work.

Older versions work fine, 4.1 does not, tried several different browsers in case it was browser related but all to no avail, the menu structure refuses to appear as you add pages to the menu.

This first screen shot shows the working menu on an older version

    Old version working

This second shows what I get on a 4.1 install, please note this is a fresh install with no plugins installed at all, straight out of the box. Note this missing structure, no matter what I do I cannot add menu items, help anyone ?

    4.1 Not working

Note this isn’t the same wordpress site that I have taken the screen shots from, just wanted to prove that it works in my browser and on the same server setup on the older version but not the latest WP.

Just don’t know what else to try, when I add an item it tells me to drag the items into the correct order, but the items don’t actually ever appear over on the right hand side where I would expect them like they do in the first screen shot, really weird!

Try adding define('CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS', false); to your wp-config.php file just below the define('DB_HOST' line.

No sorry James, hasn’t made any difference…

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Browser up to date, have tried both chrome and safari on Mac OSX, don’t use any plugins or extensions, currently using Chrome Version 40.0.2214.94 (64-bit). Have cleared cache and cookies too.

an older version as per my original posting is working fine, so can’t be anything to do with the browser (I wouldn’t think anyway )

Try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Switched to 2015 theme, still no difference I’m afraid.

I’ve just done a completely fresh install of 4.1, it has no plugins installed or extra themes it’s just vanilla straight out of the tar file and even that is having the same issue.

Not sure if you can PM me on here but if you can I can let you have a username and password to have a look for yourself and see if you can see anything silly in the set up?

Hm, yeah it’s definitely not a WordPress problem, I can’t reproduce the issue.

Are you manually installing WordPress or using your hosting provider’s installer?

I’m not taking direct access clients right now, but if you want to hire someone, please try one of the following sites:

I run my own servers so am manually un’tarring it and running it in the root of the domain

    (@macmanx)

Hm, which version of PHP are you running?

    (@c9craig)

I’ve never come across this issue before, it’s running on an Ubuntu 14.04 server with apache

    (@macmanx)

Ok, but which version of PHP are you running?
