• Hi,
I am trying to add a “promotions” page to our website.
I created the page, added some content to it.
I tried to add it as a subitem of the “Events” item in our main menu.
When I drag it slightly to th eright it indents, but once I save it, it goes back to being a menu item, not a subitem.
I have tried for a hour to understand what I am doing wrong, t=it shoudl not be this hard to edit. I thought that this is what wordpress is all about, ease of use.
The page is a child of events page.
Also on the events page there is a sub menu that does not have the “promotions” page on it. I suspect once the promotions item becomes I sub item it will play nice.
HELP, I am at wits end

  • You really need to ask your hosts for assistance with creating the database. That’s really outside the realms of what we can help with beyond generalities as every host is different.

let’s say it this way. I have created the DB on the server, it is just getting the correct info to WP to set it up.
Talking to hostpapa is not really an option, first u have to create a ticket then u have to wait a few days for them to see it…
I think you get the idea

I do sympathise with your situation but there’s really not a lot we can do to help. Are you trying to create the wp-config.php file yourself or are you letting WordPress create it for you as part of the installation process.

letting WP do it for me as part of the install process.
But the host is down, vey down…. hope not my bad, but i think it is.
Maybe, if they return, all will be good… or the site will be gone.
I had some problem a few weeks ago with them, and I left it for a few hours and was able to fix the issue I was having.
I dunno about this one, sounds to me like the DB has corrupted.
Time will tell. I did exactly what I was trying to to do today, on another site (same host) yesterday with NO problems. So I know what I am trying to do works. It’s so very frustrating

What exactly is the error message that you are seeing? There’s an outside chance that we might be able to make a good guess at which part of your database credentials are incorrect – though we probably
won’t be able to give you the correct detail.

Also bear in mind that quite few hosting companies are currently experiencing problems due to mass attacks on their systems. I haven’t seen any mention of Hostpapa being one of them but right now, I wouldn’t rule it out.

I think they Banned my office IP. Ot it just came back in the 5 minutes it takes to get home. I got it now, it was a username issue.
    Thanks.

    Till the next error ??

Glad to hear that you got this problem sorted. ??

ok. even with a FRESH install, not done thru the hosts interface.
I uploaded the wordpress to a page thru FTP.
Set things up thru the WP setup page.

So, I still cannot get the submenu to indent and save. It will indent, but as soon as I save the menu it goes back to all in a row.
Default theme.. what am I doing wrong …
    This is killing me.
I will happliy give out the user and password if you want to try it yourself.
I will try it from my mac next.

It’s a long shot but try adding define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);to the bottom of your wp-config.php file (just before the require_once line).

    nope

Damn! I was hoping it might be a javascript issue,. How many items are in these custom menus?

    Thread Starter HydronicsTeam

    (@hydronicsteam)

Well, turns out it wasn’t the server, it wasn’t the wordpress install, and it wasn’t the theme.
    It was microsoft IE …
So when I shifted the submenus to the right, and saved it all was fine.
It saved and worked just fine. Now I had messed with the site soo much that a few other things needed fixing.
So, I screwed around all day, pulled out most of my hair and it was all just because of a browser error.

    Ever hear of that ?????
    Anyone ????
Glad it’s fixed, but what a day

OMG!! Unfortunately, yes. When it comes to IE, there’s no limit to grief and hair loss – LOL! Glad to hear you finally solved it, though :)!

right now I’d like to put something special in the mail for microsoft…

Thanks so much for helping me and putting up with me LOL.
I get frustrated easy these days
