• All menu related problems.

    I add a page to the menu and after saving instead of being a page it automatically becomes a custom link therefore doesn’t open.

    Also on Edit Menus/ Manage Locations it forgets my choices each time so when say I add a page and then look at the site I get a Primary navigation with all the menu items added and no nesting. So I then have to go back to Manage Locations and choose, once again my Primary and Top Menus.

    Have tried de-activating all menus and changing the theme but to no effect.

    Bluehost have recently upgraded my blog sites (3) to 5.4 from 5.2. Might this have affected the functioning of the menu though it just seems to be a problem on one https://www.helmsley.info

  • Try deactivating ALL plugins and switching to a default theme to start troubleshooting this kind of issue.

    As i noted I have done this already to no effect.

    ATM, your site shows Canvas and various plugins.

    If it looks like theme or plugin’s you should ask the developers of each one.

    I deactivated all the plug ins and it made no difference so I re-installed them. Then I switched the theme to Twenty Eleven and that made no difference either so I switched back and then had to change a load of settings that the switch had caused. So really frustrating. I don’t think it’s a plug in therefore.

    What have WooThemes said about this?

    Haven’t contacted them as yet. Will do so now.

    Hi, this seems to be an issue with the hosting servers. I was told menus need to refer back to the SQL server when ever you add a new “menu” item to your custom menu. The more you add, more issues you will encounter. You can try to edit your phprc or php.ini and add the following: memory_limit = 2024M
    max_execution_time = 500
    max_input_time = 500
    max_input_vars = 3000

    See if that helps.

    Thanks for that advice – I went to BlueHosts and made the PHP changes as you suggested but to no avail. Problem still exists. Woo have said try upgrading Canvas to the latest version which will mean deleting the existing (only minor customisations so should not be big hassle) and then adding latest. So I’ll try that.

    I am also having issues with my menu after I ran the update. There are many problems that came after the update, but the menu, I use the dashboard for my Menu.

    It does not allow me to make any changes and allow me to save them. I called blue-host as well for technical help, but it is doing the same for them. It does not show up on my site either, even after making it my default menu option. NEED HELP!!!!

    I eventually sorted out the problem by changing my PHP setting again on Bluehost (I think to 5.2 but can’t totally recall, non teccie here) plus I updated my canvas theme. To do this I changed it to a default theme, deleted Canvas and then uploaded the latest version and changed it back again. I lost a few of the settings in the process such as header padding but nothing too serious and then it all seemed to work again. Took ages to sort it as Bluehosts though helpful didn’t have much of idea and Woothemes weren’t too sure either. I have now added the Canvas updater plug in so updating it should now be easier.

    Hope this helps.

    Sorry I forgot to mention, I don’t have canvas.

    I dont use anything special for the menu. Im using what wordpress provides. I am using themefuse for a theme. (Gadgetry) Not sure if this information helps?

    All I can suggest is try changing your PHP settings on your Control Panel on Blue Host. Or try a different theme and see if that helps. Or as WordPress alaways say de-activate all your plug ins and if that sorts it then if it does reactivate one by one until the problem re-appears. Then if it is a plug in you’ll know which one doesn’t like your theme update.

    Can you please outline exactly what php changes you made? Having this exact issue and am ripping my hair out not being able to figure out whats going on.

    Thanks!

    As I say I think it was changing it to version 5.2. No probs now after doing that and updating the Canvas theme. Sorry you are having issue with this.
