• I hired someone to migrate my site to wordpress last year and they made a custom sub menu. I am currently giving the site’s content an overhaul. I am able to edit pages and the menus, but some of the links don’t work. When you click on the menu item it just takes you to the parent page. I wish they had just stuck with the regular appearance/menu editor, but I think its too late to go back to that. I can not figure out what I am doing wrong!

  • Hi itdhs,

please look for the custom menus url, as the menu might be created using links options in the appearance/menu.

Do you mean the url of the page the menu item should link to? I have been throughout the appearance/menu interface, the page edit interface – setting the parent page, resaving the permalinks setting, and one of my menu items works (“overview”), but my “tradition” menu item won’t link to its page. It links to the parent page instead. In addition, when I try to set the page order in page attributes I have no luck at all. I have to keep purging cache to see any changes.
    Here is my site:

I think the problem stems from the fact that I am using a custom sub menu. If i use the appearance>menu interface it adds another menu on top of what is already there and its a real mess. As far as I can tell the sub menu can only be created by giving the page a parent in the page attribute section of the Edit Page. It seems that the top menu item of each sub menu is automatically linked to the parent page and theres no way to change it also I an’t change the order of the sub menu items so I could work around this problem. What a mess! Very frustrating

Can you post the screen shoot of the menu page with full expanded menu lists, so I can have a glance to see, what the mess is all about & also give me the link to download the theme as I couldn’t find the theme.

I downloaded the theme folder and stuffed it. I am not really sure what I am doing, obviously. but I did post screen shots here:

I am really in over my head here. Thank you so much for your kind help.

    Ok, here is the point.

    1. You can create a custom menu instead of automatically adding new pages in the menu item.

    2. If you want to change the order of the sub-menu you can change the order as you wish. like sub-menu top link order is 1 and like wise 2,3,4, ……

Hope your problem is solved this time.
