Menu items without any menu image (also not in the entire menu) still contain menu image wrappers and use menu image classes which add extra padding to the left side.

Can the menu image plugin use the “hide” state as default state for all menu items?
I guess this should fix the issue because “hide” state prevents the addition of any wrappers or classes. Or make the state “hide” when no image is set for the menu item.

    Hi @strarsis,

I’m looking at it at the moment. It seems because of the WordPress 5.4 update.

For now try the CSS suggested here.

@takanakui: Wow, this was a fast response! Thanks!
Your plugin is very useful. Have you planned to extend it to the new Gutenberg Menu/Navigation block? It is independent from the stock WordPress menu but will become more important as full site editing becomes stable in Gutenberg.

@strarsis Since we interact with the WordPress official menus at the moment I’m not seeing how different could it be, only when a menu item will be a block and I’m not sure if that will happen.

What were your thoughts on this?
    Thanks

@takanakui: The navigation block in Gutenberg is (currently) separate from the WordPress official menus. So even when menus have been traditionally defined, currently these cannot be used in the Gutenberg menu block.

Currently, the menu block items don’t have an image/icon option.
I hope Gutenberg adds this in the future, but maybe you want to add this feature to the Gutenberg plugin?

Thanks for the info. I’m trying to think why they don’t use the current fields of the menus.

Anyway, I will have a further look when possible to see if it’s a good fit or not.

    Thanks for the info.
