Try changing

.menu .current_page_item a {

        text-decoration: underline;
}

to

.menu .current_page_item a,
 .menu .current-menu-item a {

        text-decoration: underline;
}

One word of warning is that editing the style.css is a bit dangerous. A better idea would be to create a child theme.
