I am having problems with the menu editor in the Dashboard.

I have created a new menu, saved it and have selected it to be the primary menu and saved that.

However, my menu is not showing up. It is still the old menu with the pages as the links in alphabetical order.

I suspect this has something to do with the theme I am using, Birdtips.

I have also installed a menu widget – “Dropdown Menu Widget”. This has enabled me to change the colours and theme of the navigation menu, but I cannot swap the default menu for my custom menu.

    This is the page: https://www.janekillick.com/testpages

As you can tell, this is a test site (so you can ignore the fact that I deleted the Home tab on the nav menu!)

I looked at the source code on the page and – with my limited ability – couldn’t work out the problem.

So I searched the forums for more about the widget, rather than the menu, and it seemed it stopped working when WordPress upgraded to 3.3.

    Drat.

So back to the drawing board to get the main site nav to work. The one that comes with Birdtips is awful – if you change to a custom menu, it moves the menu position and changes the colours to the link colour used in the rest of the page, so it disappears inside my header because of the colour scheme I’m using.

Thanks for anyone who read this post.

Hey LittleBlogger did you manage to resolve the issue of the custom menu? I have the same problem. I want to add anchors to my dropdown menu, but when I select the custom menu in birdtips, then it changes the font and placement to vertical rather than horizontal. This seems really silly and I’m sure it was just overlooked in the theme development. Does anyone have any help for me please?

Sorry, Karenelated, I had a look around the web and it seems the plugin doesn’t work with the updated version of WordPress. (as stated above)

What I did in the end was to number the pages so they appear in the header in the order I wanted them to. But I had to stick with the version of the navigation panel which comes with BirdTips.

Sorry this doesn’t help you very much, but I came to the conclusion that it was unsolvable

thanks for the feedback! yes I’ve also found the widgets aren’t compatible with new WP. So will have to find someone who can add in some code for me …
