• I had something really weird happen to me today, hopefully someone can help me fix it.
    Site:
    https://www.getbrightswitch.com
    Actions leading up to problem.

    • I duplicated an existing page, did some edits to the new page and then published it–It was all working fine at this point.
    • I decided to try another template in the theme and changed the template for that new page only and saved it. I didn’t like the layout so I went back to the original template (which has worked on the site for months).
    • This is when I noticed that the 2 menus (one in header and one in footer) on ALL my pages were messed up: they started showing all the published pages on my site instead of just the couple page that were assigned in the menu (it was showing them based on order number assigned-not even by parent/order combo, so all 0s, then all 1s…). Additionally the urls in the links were all messed up they were showing up as “/#post-890” instead of “/buy” (these are pages not posts)

Things I have tried today to fix this problem

    • I removed all the menus and rebuilt them (Appearance->Menu), but am getting the same results.
    • I tried to repair and optimize the db via the wp repair/optimize functionality=>no change
    • I changed permalink types a couple time, and back to original type=>no change
    • I installed a menu plug in (Max MegaMenu) It still showed all the pages despite the menu it was assigned to.

since I needed some sort of presentable menu I made the footer menu a hard coded text widget so there was some way to get around the site.

    Any ideas, pointers?
I have access to DB on the backend if need be, but hope it doesn’t come to that.

    thanks

    Also try:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Seventeen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

@t-p Thanks for the fast response, did both of the above.
deactivating all plugins didn’t do anything.

It seems to be a theme specific issue, went to twenty seventeen and the menu was working correctly (showing appropriate pages and links were correctly formatted).

Any thoughts on what could have happened going from one template to another within the same theme or any thoughts on how to fix it? (There’s been modification from the original theme that was used so just reinstalling the theme might not work.

This indicates issue with your theme.

SO, please identify exactly which theme you are using and then post in that theme’s dedicated forum via its page in the Theme Repository.
