Menu bug?

I’m using the Canvas WordPress theme. I have my books organized into several series and genres in a drop down menu under “books.” When I select one, both “books” and the “blog” menu item highlight at the same time. If I choose an individual book page, “books” goes inactive and only the “blog” menu item remains highlighted. It appears that both mybooktable and wordpress use the same parent id terminology. If I disable mybooktable, the menu functions correctly. It happens in both 1.3.4 and 1.3.5.
