I am back—what a gong show…
Once again I was called by 24×7 and told everything was fixed and please contact the chat line. I went on the website, and still stuff was missing from the menu dropdown..
I checked out my sidebars and ALL of my independent sidebars were TOTALLY gone this time, and replaced with a static sidebar. So if I put something on one sidebar it is copied across the whole website—which is NOT what I want, and is not what I had put together with my site. The plugin for the independent sidebars that was working fine and causing no problems at all, they deleted the plugin off and put the static sidebar in its place. There was NOTHING wrong with the sidebar or its plugin, and it had been working fine all along.. earlier they had messed around with the sidebars and had some static and some independent.
I told them the drop down menu STILL was not working, and some of the stuff showed up and some stuff still wasn’t showing up..
I asked what happened to the sidebars, and was not given any answer..
Finally I told them I would simply get hostgator to do a restore if they couldn’t fix it.. So I was told– okay they would refund the down payment.
I guess I should check and see if they have refunded it or not.. I have been fighting a “bug” so haven’t been totally on top of my game right now..
Anyways I contacted hostgator and the drama continued…The fellow I talked to at chat said “no problem they could do a restore,” and he sent a ticket to my e-mail.. WELL guess what? 24×7 had done a back up of the website the day before which I had no knowledge of, as if that would do any good doing a back up of a defective situation.. 24×7 had NOT told me they did a back up, and this was the first I had heard of it.. The fellow at hostgator said that the back up that 24×7 had done was the only one that was available. I said “no way, I had backed up the site several times and they were in the file manager.” He kept insisting that the back up that 24×7 had done absolutely the only one that was available.I kept asking “then why on earth do we do backups if they are not available? I could see the back ups in the file manager, and I told this fellow that the 1st techie from hostgator who had “helped me” put my website online had deleted the whole website off and that the admin had restored it. My questions went totally unanswered. The chat line fellow asked me who my web developer was, and I told him I didn’t have a web developer, that I had put the website together myself. He absolutely insisted that hostgator could not help me and that I had to have a web designer help me put it back together again. I told him that 24×7 couldn’t help me so I didn’t figure anyone else could either, and he typed a few numbers and names of web developers down and told me to contact them.. I was so annoyed that when I closed the chat I didn’t trust myself to rate the conversation. I picked up the phone and called hostgator, and told the person I spoke to my problems, he hummmed and looked at the back ups in file manager and said—”would it be okay to restore back to March 23 date?” I said “that would be fine,” and that was it, it was done… The next time I looked at the site it was restored.
and everything was there except a few minor problems that I could fix myself- like the counter was gone, and the one horse footer widget was slid sideways. That was an easy fix, and I expected it, as I had done a quick back up, even though I was dealing with minor problems at the time.
I decided that I would change my wordpress website- password, as I didn’t want anyone going back into the website mucking around. I changed the password, and went to bed.. Well someone must have been in the backside or had it open when I was in there changing the password, because this morning when I looked at the website, the one horse that had been slid sideways was totally gone!! A family member can vouch that both the horses had been on the front end when it was fixed last night and I went to bed.
I have gotten an e-mail from 24×7 asking how the service was, I haven’t trusted myself to reply yet…
How can one tell someone that the problem is fixed and ask for money when the problem is NOT fixed? And the guy on the chat line from Hostgator, either don’t know what he is talking about, or something..
Anyways,Has anyone ever used AccessPress Social icons plugins??
I had it on the website and active a long time ago but couldn’t figure out how to use it, so de-activated it.. At least it didn’t crash anything when I had it active…..
