So I have a VPS with 256MB of ram and two websites that both use WP 2.6.3. I realized that my memory usage kept maxing out and decided to disable one of the sites to see which one was the problem. So I figured out which site was the problem but now have no idea what to do next. I tried to disable all plugins and use the default theme but the memory still gets maxed out after about 5 to 10 minutes. If I leave the bad site disabled the VPS will hover around 60-70MB of used ram. As soon as I turn the other site on, even with default theme and no plugins, it immediately starts to go back up to max.

Has anyone had this problem before or have any ideas on how to figure out where the root of the problem is?

  • I just received an email from my hosting company telling me that my VPS was maxing out also. No idea why, but I suspect it’s a WP plugin (or maybe WP itself??).

I posted it about it here & am hoping someone will reply soon.

I’ve run into this several times before, and it always ends up being a plugin issue. Do you have wp-super-cache installed? Any kind of rating plugins? I’d try disabling any plugins that you don’t absolutely 100% need right now and see how that effects your proc usage.

Did you use top to see what eats the RAM, apache, mysql, or maybe a security tool kicking in?
