The Convertkit team says I should be asking for support from WordPress, so here I am.

I get daily error emails from WordPress saying this:

    Details
    ==============
Ein Fehler vom Typ E_ERROR wurde in der Zeile 71 der Datei /home/fritsc4/www/minhcakes.ch/wp-content/plugins/convertkit/admin/section/class-convertkit-settings-tools.php verursacht. Fehlermeldung: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 980861968 bytes)

I used to have WP memory limit set to 256M, which should be PLENTY for any kind of plugin. Since this started, I’ve upped it to 512M but that hasn’t solved the problem.

Apparently the Convertkit plugin needs 980M…!

A CK tech told me it’s because I have a lot of tags. I do have over 400 tags. But those weren’t created overnight – but the problem has come up all of a sudden. And 400 tags taking almost 1GB memory – really?

I’m on WP 5.2. and all my plugins are up to date.

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi Xuan-Minh,

I will be closing this thread because we worked with you over email to resolve this problem.

The issue was not the mere fact that you had so many tags, it was that your error log file was storing so much data and becoming so large that loading it when you tried accessing the wp-admin settings page caused the memory exhaustion you describe here.

For anyone who may encounter this same issue, the solution is as follows:

    • Navigate to Settings > ConvertKit in your wp-admin
    • Un-check the “Save connection data to a log file” option
    • Then click “Save Changes”

Then you can take this additional step, which is optional, but highly recommended:

    • Access your site’s files over FTP
    • Find the file at this path: /wp-content/plugins/convertkit/log.txt
    • Delete that file
